Hluhluwe Safari 31st October 2016
Our Hluhluwe day safari began in the city of Durban where I collected my group of 4 clients. It had been a little while since I have conducted a safari personally. This made the experience even more enjoyable for me.
We headed up to Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve on route covering South Africa’s history and any questions.
It was a lovely cloudy day and not too hot even though it is our summer. We arrived at Hluhluwe Imfolozi and began our day safari.
We spotted our first Elephant on the road a mere 5 minutes into the tour!
After 5-10 minutes we moved on and spotted Rhino. Wildebeest and Zebra on either side or the road. I have no idea how long we spent here but our safari from Durban was heating up!

We continued on – spotting Giraffe in the distance – and we managed to get nice and close to a lovely family. A mother, father and year old baby.

We kept going and sighted some more Elephants in the thickets near the road. (Unfortunately not that easy to see or photograph)
We decided to have an early lunch before continuing.
When we got going again we already felt content. But still … seeing some Buffalo and of course some cats would be great! Cats are hard in the day unless you are lucky and in the right place at the right time.
Next up was the Buffalo!

At this particular spot we had about 60 Buffalo and 10 Zebra. We waited for a while enjoying the Red Billed Ox-peckers feeding on the Ticks of the Buffalo and then looked at the Zebra which were now 8 meters from the road.

These Zebra were really amazing as they posed for us with the three in a line! It is always great to get photos like this and to see these majestic animals from so close.
It was now time to make our way to the Hluhluwe river to see if we could find Lions. We did on route find Warthog which my clients really wanted to see as well as more Nyala, Kudu, Wildebeest and Impala.
At the Hluhluwe river we had an amazing sighting of two herds of Elephant drinking and two males began to play fight.

We left these amazing creatures to began to head out of Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve and back to Durban after what had been an incredible Durban day safari.
Before we could get to the gate to exit we spotted a female Buffalo skull which I though was quite appropriate as to me it represented life and death. This is obviously what nature is all about and why being in the wilderness is so special.
A death means life for another animal and that is nature!

We exited the reserve after a lot of smiles and excitement, finding as many animals as we could and enjoying nature at the same time.
We later arrived back in the city of Durban and could all recall the amazing day as well as get some rest.
