Drakensberg Catherdral peak Tour 8 to 10 April 2013 - Tim Brown Tours

We Began this Safari Tour inDurbancity. My clients were looking for things to do inDurbanand a Drakensberg experience.

We had already covered Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve and seen some amazing things.

After departingDurbanwe reached the central drakensberg by lunch time and settled into lunch and the rooms before Hiking up to Doreen fall which was beautiful and Full!

The following was a big day with myself and Davin tackling Cathedral peak and him mom and dad taking a Helicopter flip and horse ride in the mountains.

After some dinner it was time for bed and a 6 am departure up the mountain.

Day 2. 6am we left and began our hike which you really have to do at a fast pace to complete in 9hours. I really battled with cramps with the continuous uphill but Davin was like a gazelle up the slopes.

When we reached Orange peel Gap where hikers would usually stop for andOrangeand leave there peels behind, I was finished and let the other go on so they could complete the hike. I continued up to the base another few kilometres up but stopped at the base as I realised I still had to go all the way back and had already done about 13 km up.

I then turned back and my cramps seemed to be a bit better until I slipped on some sandstone pebbles and strained a recurring groin injury. I hobbled down and got back at 14:45.

Davin and Absolon did really well and made great time and were only an hour behind me after the reached the summit of Cathedral peak. I was very impressed with them.

After returning to camp we chatted with Davins mom and dad( Heather and Ed) and heard there day was brilliant aswell. We all then decided to take some sunset photos of the mountain from the nearest rural community where we made friends with the locals.

Dinner was amazing and I don’t think any of us even felt our heads hit the pillow and we were out…

Day3. We awoke to rain but Davin and I still made it to the river to get some photographs before it became heavy, then it was breakfast and a rest.

Later we visited the San rock art museum and interpretive centre which was amazing before starting our long trek back toDurban.

We arrived late afternoon and said our farewells after a week together.

It was a great Tour.
