OVERVIEW

Here in Durban KwaZulu-Natal we are spoiled to have many small Safari private game lodges and a few large Safari national parks. Around the Durban area Tala Private game reserve is one of the most popular of the smaller Safari Parks near Durban. A mere 40 Minutes from Durban City we will collect you from your Durban Hotel and guide you from the amazing city of Durban to Tala private game reserve. Your qualified guide will ensure your Durban day safari tour will be memorable as he shows off what wildlife Tala private game reserve has to offer!

After we depart Tala game reserve we head through the remarkable Valley of 1000 Hills previously home to the “Debe” People who were pushed to Cannibalism by the Zulus. This beautifully Scenic area is amazing to visit with stunning views of the rolling hills. We will arrive at Phezulu Safari Park for some lunch at the Boma restaurant, again, with great views before we head down to the Crocodile center to have a Tour of the reptiles.

Once done with this, we will enter the traditional Zulu cultural village, an authentic village run by the Gaza family. They have kindly opened their homes to us and their culture and we will share in the wonders of some traditional Zulu dancing, singing as well as entering the traditional Zulu huts to learn more about their culture!

This Durban day safari tour to Tala game reserve and the Valley of 1000 hills is a full day tour. It covers nature and culture. We can arrange a half day of either Tala game reserve or the Valley of 1000 hills at your request.

ITINERARY

 

7.00 AM: Transportation

You will be collected from your accommodation venue (This only applies to pick-up’s and drop-off’s in Durban City, feel free to contact us if you are unsure as to whether your pick-up location is covered. Should your pick-up location not be covered, we will still collect you, however, there may be an additional charge dependent on where you are based.

7.45 AM: Tala Game Reserve

From time of pick-up, it is approximately a 45-minute drive to Tala Private Game Reserve. During transit, your guide will share a bit of history with you and you are encouraged to ask questions to reap the full benefit of the tour. Rest assured that you will travel in absolute comfort as Tim Brown Tours use a Ford Tourneo or a Ford Everest to conduct all tours. This is subject to availability and Tim Brown Tours reserves the right to make alternative vehicle arrangements. Once you have reached your destination, your guide will educate you on the history of the area as well as conduct a 3-hour game drive in a closed air-conditioned vehicle so you can experience the amazing wildlife that Tala Private Game Reserve has to offer in comfort

11.45 AM: Zulu Cultural Village and the Reptile Park

Arrive at Zulu Cultural Village where we will stop for lunch (please note that this is for your own account) after which we will make our way to the Reptile Park. Here you will learn about the reptiles of Southern Africa. The chance to see Ramesis, a 90-year-old Nile crocodile has been a big highlight for guests as well as the numerous snake species kept at the Reptile Park.

2.00 PM: Zulu Cultural Village and the Reptile Park

After a lunch break and a visit to the Reptile park, we make our way to the Zulu  Cultural Village where your guide will educate you on the area and the Zulu Culture. You will have a chance to explore the Craft Shops within the village before continuing on to the Zulu Cultural Village experience where we will enter the traditional Zulu Cultural Village, an authentic village run by the Gaza family. The Gaza family have kindly opened their homes to us and their culture and we will share in the wonders of some traditional Zulu dancing, singing as well as entering the traditional Zulu huts to learnt more about this unique culture.

3.00 PM: Departure

Sadly, it is the end of the tour and we will make our way back to Durban but you will have one last opportunity to look at the craft shops before we make our way towards Durban.

4.00 PM: Arrival

HISTORY

Now known as Three Cities Tala Game reserve after the community took over the reserve from the previous owners, Three cities Tala game reserve has a mix of acacia Thornveld, open grassland and sensitive wetlands providing exceptional game watching and birding, setting the stage for that perfect photograph.

Tala allows you to get closer to nature, to really interact with the environment and animals, and to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush. Tala is a wildlife sanctuary. Spanning over 3000 hectares and incorporating many diverse natural environments, the reserve features well over 380 bird species, with big game that includes Rhino, Hippo, kudu, Zebra, Giraffe and Eland. Several distinctive and remarkable plant species are also to be found on Tala. The fiery aloe in full bloom, the imposing euphoria and the smell of the fragrant wild sage on a dewy morning make every safari tour at the reserve unique and memorable.
