Kruger Park Safari Tour – Mjejane River Lodge 17-21 December 2012

It was so nice to have a repeat client David, Who had already done St Lucia with me a year ago. This time he brought his family out and we visited a Private game lodge at the most Southern tip of Kruger National park – Mjejane River lodge.

I drove up the day before with my wife, it took us 9 hours to get there. Gone are the days of speeding in my little Nissan 1400 Bakkie!

We stayed in Nelspruit that night then we met David and his family at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport on the 17th December 2012.

Then it was time to do a little guiding it was really minimal as we only had an hour to the lodge (Mjejane).

Upon arrival we were greeted by staff and management and briefed on the routine of the stay. I say Routine as all you ever do in these lodges is Sit(on game drive), Eat and sleep!

The views were amazing overlooking the splendor of the Crocodile River one of the most well known rivers in South Africa.

Once settled in we had “high tea” and ventured out with Mjejanes guides to find the Big 5 among other animals.

After some sundowners and a short drive back to the lodge it was time for dinner which was a Braai (BOMA) Dinner under the stars with a big fire place, it was lovely.

It was an early night as we all had to be up early for the 05:30 game drive.

We saw loads of animals just sadly never seems to strike it lucky with the cats!

Breakfast again was amazing big buffet and then short rest before lunch, high tea and game drive, then dinner. As you can see it was really eat, eat, sit(game drive) and sleep.

The following day we were contemplating going into Kruger across the river from Mjejane(no fences between the two) but the group decided to give it a skip and try still on Mjejane.

My wife and I decided to spend 7 hours in Kruger and sadly had nothing much to write home about except a disrespectful driver getting Mock charged by a Musth Bull Elephant. This was a close one as a week previously an Elephant had tossed a car over. People really need to remember to respect the animals and not put them under pressure to move off the road!

On our return we all had lunch and then High Tea- departing on another game drive before an amazing dinner(still no cats). This prompted a half day Kruger Tour the following morning which was great but we were really Cat chasing and when you chase Cats eish the hide man….

Amazing other sightings Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, giraffe, Zebra, Impala suckling etc just missing the Cats.

It was time to say our farewells to Mjejane and Kruger Park and the clients had to get back to Cape Town. We took them back to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport where we said our good byes now as friends!

It was lovely to meet you all David(again), Ken, Annie and Daniel(the camera man)

regards

Hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains looking for San Rock art yields some surprises!

Finally got some time alone to just hike in the Drakensberg alone and see if I could find some undiscovered San Rock art. Well, I made my own path (Not recommended unless experienced). Tripping over hidden rocks and slippy grass, I got a really good fright as I...

Tourism has always been the ever-growing side to our economy. But since the Corona/Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores in South Africa, it has been totally obliterated.

Returning to our roots to learn how to live a healthy life. There is always some new diet out there or new “health” product which is better than our hard to avoid processed options we most commonly eat.

Lions Eyes

In the African bush indeed are the seen ~ and often unseen animal interactions.  One of the animal interactions we don’t see often is Rhino fighting each other for dominance. Either for the right to hold territory and/or to mate with females.
