Our Hluhluwe “Big 5” game reserve safari from Durban began in the city where I collected my clients. It was to be a Hluhluwe game reserve safari to remember!
Our day began at 06:30 and we made our way to the world famous Hluhluwe game reserve and the Umfolozi game reserve in the south. After covering the major history of Durban, KwaZulu Natal and South Africa we arrived at Hluhluwe game reserve and it was only 09:30. As it was a cool day I was really hoping we would find cats but as nature has it, you have to be at the right place at the right time.

We began our Durban day tour to Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve in Durban city where I collected my clients. It would be a day to remember with great sightings.
I covered the usual history of Durban and KwaZulu Natal on route to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi big 5 game reserve and answered any questions my clients had.
We arrived before 10 am and had immediate luck as we spotted Zebra and Giraffe together!

I met my clients outside of Durban for their Durban day tour to Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve, the closest Big 5 game reserve to Durban!
It was a different tour for me as of the 5 clients, 3 of them were from South Africa originally and 2 of them had grown up in Australia and were visiting their Mothers land so to speak.
I usually only have overseas clients so the change was as good as a holiday and I had very nice clients.

We began our KwaZulu Natal midlands tour in the Durban area and made our way up to the Nelson Mandela Capture site near Lions river. It would be here where our historical tour would begin!
In 1962 on the 5th of August the late Nelson Mandela was captured on his way from Johannesburg to Durban where he was meeting Chief Albert Luthuli who ironically had won the noble peace prize in 1960! Mandela had been plotting to overthrow the Apartheid government.
On the one side of the road the plaque commemorates this day.
