After meeting my client in Durban(Who were looking for things to do in Durban) on a very rainy day we departed on our Big 5 Safari Tour to Hluhluwe umfolozi game reserve and Isimangeliso(st Lucia wetlands).
We arrived an the rain had stopped so we got cracking with finding the animals and did pretty well considering the on and off rain.
We found some Rhinos, Hippos in the hluhluwe river, Buffalo, Giraffe and Zebra all in the first few hours.
We stopped for an early lunch and the headed straight back out in search of more animals. We saw plenty Rhinos, Buffalos, Giraffes and much more, Just couldnt find Elephant or Cats.
It was then time for the evening open game drive experience where the client saw Hyenas and general game but no cats or Elephants.
Later it was dinner which was amazing even more so than usual must have been meat left from friday nights braai as it was very tasty indeed.
Bed was calling and an early morning I was praying the rain would stop.
When I awoke at 5am i looked outside and I could see stars so this was a good sign, a clear warm day ahead!
We left on game drive at 6am and tracked Lions right to the point where they disappeared from the roads, we even found male Leopard tracks but again he had moved into a river bed and we would not be able to see him!
I then turned my attention to Elephants and this was even worse all activity was a day or two old and they were in thick bush not visible to us.
We had to stop for breakfast before I lost my temper with nature it was a tough morning for me.
After a great breakfast I was ready again and 5 minutes from the gate found a bull elephant 100 meters from the road. He came closer and then disappeared into a thicket out of sight. However we had seen him and taken photographs! yay i think i was more happy than my clients!…
We then departed to Isimangeliso wetland park or St Lucia wetlands and had a great cruise on the estuary. The Hippos were playing ball and we had great sighting of them even out the water at 1pm! I was stoked.
After 2 hours it was curio shopping time and lunch, then came the 3 hours back to Durban which was helped by my client talking about genetics with me and work the had been doing in South Africa educating our people.
