Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game reserve, Cat rehab and St Lucia 5 Day Safari Tour 4-8 June 2013

We started our Safari Tour from Durban where I met my clients and we began the drive to the Cat rehab centre for interaction with a couple of cheetahs.

It was a great experience for all and later we headed into the game reserve, Hluhluwe umfolozi for the start of our epic 5 days of game searching and viewing.

We were very lucky as elephants covered the hills in the north and we spent a good hour and a half with them before eventually leaving and heading for some lunch.

Later we went back out till 6pm and got lucky with Lions mating just below the camp.

After dinner it was bed and the best part was the lions roaring through the night.

Day 2: We stuck to the northern and central areas where we covered most other game: Girraffes, Zebra, nyala, warthog, Buffalo, Rhino etc

Day 3: this was a big day we decided to do a 7.5 hours game drive where I went far south to look at new areas and for anything that might show its face. It was crazy to think that in that time we only saw 2 bull elephants after seeing so many on day one. We did how ever see loads of other things, buffalo, Wildebeest, impala, nyala, Kudu, Rhino, Just no cats to add to the list.

After Lunch at Centenary Center we headed back to camp and prepared for the evening open vehicle game drive.

Day 4; We took a little more easy and did just 5 hours of game drive after all the driving my clients were also stiff from having ran the comrades.

We added one or two species to the list but it was mostly a huge effort to try and find a Leopard which was the only major thing escaping us.

This night the Lion roared very loudly at about 3 am.

Day 5: We decided breakfast and check out was the best option then off to St Lucia (Isimangeliso park) for the 2 hour hippo and Crocodile boat cruise. This was great and we were very lucky with Hippos out the water and about 8 Crocodiles.

After this we did the board walk to the Estuary mouth and then slowly headed to the Airport stopping along the way for lunch.

A great tour all in all.
