Hluhluwe Umfolozi, Cat Rehab and St Lucia Safari Tour 19-21 June 2013
We began this Journey(Safari) from Durban city and Durban North. After meeting and collecting my clients we headed up to the Cat rehab center for some interaction with the various endangered Cat species; African Wild Cat, Serval, Caracal and Cheetah.
After a great experience we heading into the game reserve Hluhluwe Umfolozi for a Safari experience (3 Days). This was great as we had so much success even though it was quiet the first hour or so.
The afternoon saw us find a large herd of Elephant in the valley of Mansiya and we raced there before they could move to far from the road.
We spend over an hours with the Elephants which was great as one of my clients (Diane) stipulated that this was the only animal she had to see. I was glad we could make this happen repeatedly for her.
We had already had lunch and checked into Hilltop camp Hluhluwe before we saw the Elephants and after this game drive we headed back to camp for dinner and a rest.
Day 2. At 7am saw us find Leopard tracks but sadly when they walk on tar roads the tracks become invisible! We did find Elephants, Rhino, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra and about 3 different antilope species aswell as African Wild Dog-The most endangered carnivore in Africa before returning for a late breakfast and a rest before the afternoon evening drive.
At 3pm we headed out and found a few new species aswell as trying for the cats but alas it was not to be so we had to settle for the great sightings we had already had.
Dinner was great and the bed was calling.
Day 3. We came through for breakfast and check out before a last 2 hours or so looking for animals. We did ok and saw many of the animals that we had already seen. We then departed the game reserve and heading to the Isimangeliso wetland park a world heritage site for a 2 hour boat cruise of Africas Largest estuary.
We viewed Hippos and crocodiles aswell and much bird life including the majestic African Fish Eagle.
After this we returned to Durban stopping for lunch on route.
