Durban 3 Day overnight Safari Tour to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game reserve, Emdoneni Cat Rehab Centre and St Lucia(Isimangeliso Wetland park) 26 – 28 February 2014

Our Durban 3 Day Big 5 Safari Tour began in Durban where I met my clients and we began our Safari. We departed first for Emdoneni Cat rehab Centre in Hluhluwe where the clients enjoyed the interaction with the Cat particularly the Cheetah.

After departing Emdoneni Cat rehab centre arrived at Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game reserve, Memorial gate. Here we made our way slowly to Hilltop camp where we came across a few species of animal before arriving for lunch at and Check in at Hilltop camp.

After a great Lunch we decided that we would go out into the African Bush again at 4pm – 7pm to make the most of the late afternoon Safari drive.

We slowly began piecing together the Big 5 little by little. Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game reserve like any has the Big 5, Cheetah, Wild Dog as well as Giraffe and Zebra. Of Course there are lots of other antelope, Warthogs, Dung beetles etc to be seen on this kind of a Safari Tour from Durban.

These two White Rhinos came to a watering hole to try and get a drink of water on this hot Safari Tour Day we were lucky to eventually witness this pair drink. We actually had 5 Rhinos at this watering hole one being the dominant male of the area and he kept chasing the others away. This was a great start to the afternoon Safari Game drive for us. Durban Safari Tours with Tim Brown Tours to Hluhluwe Umfolozi can be rewarding!

Above was the first clash of horns between the big male Rhino on the left and this young male and female white Rhino. It was a very exciting look at these amazing animals, Safaris Tours never get boring even when you have been doing it a many years as I have. Brilliant stuff to see on  a Hluhluwe umfolozi Safari Tour with Tim Brown Tours.

Later on this fine afternoon we got a Big male Buffalo crossing the road to join his mates. We were so luck that we even spotted a Lioness on the road sadly it happened so quick that by the time we took the camera out she had hidden herself in the long grass and we would not see her again. This didnt matter as our luck was really up and 2 minutes we got this Hyena walking down the road following the scent of Lions and probably trying to snatch a meal. Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve is really an amazing place we were so lucky to have already seen what we had. Safaris from Durban to Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve are a must for travelers looking for things to do in Durban and surrounding areas.

After spotting this Hyena we needed to start heading back to Hilltop camp before the gates closed. We got back and had a great dinner before it was time to get some rest after a great Day Safari Tour in the African bush!

Day 2: Durban 3 Day Safari Tour to Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve.

Day 2 began as Day 1 had ended and the Big 5 were out in force! We decided to head down south to look for more cats and see the Umfolozi section of the game reserve. Todays Safari was long and hot but we had some great sightings of the Big 5 including this Elephant Bull Drinking.

Probably the best part of our 3 day Safari Tour from Durban to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game reserve came first this on Day 2 when we came across the most endangered carnivore in Africa, The African Wild dog. There were 7 of them and they we running down the main tar road looking to flush prey out of the bushes. We were very luck they were beautiful and smelly at the same time.

We also witnessed these great animals rolling around in Rhino Dung and having found a piece of plastic playing with it. Not ideal but funny non the less. Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve is home to about 100 of these highly endangered African Wild dogs. We are very lucky to see these animals in the wild as they dont have long left before they will be gone from this world. Take a Durban Day or overnight Safari Tour with Tim Brown Tours to learn more about these animals.

Later on Day 2 we were able to see more Zebra, Giraffe and Buffalo as well as Rhino and much more. Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve was treating us as usual to great sights in the Bush. It would not be the same with out these animals and we are lucky to still take clients from Durban on a Safari Tour to Hluhluwe Umfolozi.

Day 3: Durban 3 Day Safari Tour to Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve.

Day 3 was a much more quiet day in Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve but we were not there for long as we heading to St Lucia (Isimangeliso Wetland Park) for the 2 hour Boat Safari Cruise on the St Lucia estuary (Isimangeliso wetland park).

We managed to view loads of Hippos and a few crocodiles and Fish Eagles before our Safari Tour ended and we needed to get some food before heading back to Durban city.
