Durban Day Safari

Durban day Safari

It was another lovely day in Durban where we met our clients and began our adventure up the coast to the famous Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve. This reserve is a Big 5 and Malaria-free safari park. We love to take our clients here on our Durban safaris.

After the initial meet and greet we departed for the day tour. We arrived at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve after 2.5 hours. We spotted Zebra next to the road within a minute of entering!

We then went on a search for Lions and got ourselves into the area where they were last seen where they disappeared into the thickets to rest.

It was hard work, until up a game path on the left side of our vehicle one of my clients asked me to just check. So I reversed back 3 meters to double check as we do and “hey presto” there they were! Two lovely Lioness! Well done to Latisha, great spotting.

The Lions kept moving away from us and we were the only people there watching them until an open vehicle came up and we showed them where the Lions were and of course with radio communications the vehicles flooded in.

Lucky for us we had the best of the Lions and kept following the path they were taking to relocate them on a few occasions even while everyone else gave up.

We were super blessed to see what we did. Next was Rhino and Buffalo.

The lovely herd of African Buffalo were in a large mud wallow and were enjoying cooling down in the mud helping to remove ticks from the body.

We continued to look at some Rhino which we had seen before but because of the Lions we didn’t worry to much about as we knew we would see them again later in the day.

It was not long after and we found an Impala with here new born which was very exciting for me as this was my first sighting of a new born Impala this Summer. The Impala all give birth in the period of Mid November to late December.

We wanted to search for Giraffe, so we did and we succeeded. We actually spotted a lot of Giraffe but the were all far from the road.

It was now time to search for Elephant and it was not long until we came right and found a bull Elephant not to far from the road. As we saw more later I will put the photo up later in the post of the others.

Lunch was calling so we stopped at Hilltop camp which has a great view over the rolling hills of Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve. When lunch eventually arrived we ate quickly as we were so keen to get back out to see what we could find.

After departing Hilltop camp we has two things in mind. We wanted to find more Elephant and Giraffe and closer to the road in possible. Obviously nature is unpredictable but we did alright.

We spotted lots of Giraffe but not close enough to warrant a photograph.

On route to the Umfolozi river we spotted more Rhino, Buffalo, Impala, Warthog, Zebra and Wildebeest. As our goal was Elephants we didn’t waste to much time and continued on with our Safari.

As the Umfolozi we found our Elephants and just on the other side of the river we had an Elephant right nest to the road and one crossing the road right in front of us! This was all very exciting.

It was now time to head back to the gate and make our way out and back to Durban after what was a spectacular day safari from Durban!

It was lovely and a relaxed drive back to Durban were we covered any final questions the clients had and when arriving back in Durban we had completed a 13 hour day.

Another wonderful safari experience shared with clients who loved every minute of it!

If you want to experience the same contact us and we will make you dream African safari come true!

Tourism has always been the ever-growing side to our economy. But since the Corona/Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores in South Africa, it has been totally obliterated.

Lions Eyes

In the African bush indeed are the seen ~ and often unseen animal interactions.  One of the animal interactions we don’t see often is Rhino fighting each other for dominance. Either for the right to hold territory and/or to mate with females.
