After collecting my clients who were returning to South Africa from Monaco to visit family for the festive season, we headed off to Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve where we conduct most of our Durban Safari Tours.
We chatted about the history of Durban and South African before arriving at Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve and beginning our Durban Safari to see what animals we could find.
The first day of our Durban Safari turned out to be good as we began with lots on Impala and some Buffalo.

We began our Drakensberg tour in Pietermaritzberg and headed straight for South Africa’s second proclaimed World heritage site.
We arrived before around midday and settled in for some lunch and then a visit to the San Rock art center on site of the Didima resort where we would spend the next couple of nights.
The Museum as usual was great and was very interesting with lots of great items on display. The Drakensberg history goes back a long time as does that of the San bushmen.

Our African safari tours can be done from Durban with Tim Brown Tours and it was here where I collected my clients for this 4 day safari.
We could begin by visiting the Fort Nongqayi Museum in Eshowe which features the Wheel chair of King Mpande a half brother to the famous King Shaka of the Zulu Nation. It also features John Dunns furniture, Zulu crafts and a Church showing off the missionary work of the Norwegians in the area!

Our Durban safari tour began in Durban city where I collected my clients for their safari experience with Tim Brown Tours. We headed up to Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve on route stopping at a Cat rehabilitation center for interaction with Cheetah, Serval, Caracal and African Wild cat hands on!
There is no point in coming to Africa and not experiencing an African safari! South Africa is as good a place to begin with a safari as we are home to the oldest game reserve in Africa, Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve established in 1895.
On route to this majestic national park home to the Big 5, I always cover this history of South Africa as it ties so well into our Safari experience.

I met the same clients off the Oceana Nautica and collected a repeat client from Durban for this Tala game reserve half day tour. A Durban safari is always a great thing to do as we have so much choice in big and smaller game reserves.
It would be a half day tour jam packed with great sightings!
As we entered Tala game reserve we spotted the Rhino being protected by the Anti-Poaching team and after a few minutes with them something caught my eye and it was a Black Backed Jackal. I was so excited I raced off to show my clients as you hardly ever see them.

We began our St Lucia Wetlands tour later than normal at 10:30 am in Durban and made our way up to St Lucia aka Isimangaliso Wetland park. I had been collecting my clients off the cruise ship the Oceana Nautica in Durban and we began our trek to St Lucia stopping for lunch on the road.
